My First Hackathon experience
Published on ·2023-08-23Hello there 👋
I am glad that you came to read my blog. In this blog, I'll be sharing my first hackathon experience.
Let's start
As I mentioned in the title of this blog, this is my first hackathon, and I'm looking forward to it.
It started with a simple DM😁 but how?
I was bored one day, so I messaged one of my Twitter friends, whose name is Sumit, and I asked him if there were any hackathons going on. He told me that there is a hackathon coming up this week called Shark Hacks 4 by MLH (Major League Hacking). And, thankfully, we decided to participate in that hackathon.
The hackathon started on September 30th and ended on October 2nd. In the hackathon, there will be a theme, and the theme was “sharks.” Basically, people should create projects around the theme, but it is not mandatory though.
Brainstorming ideas…
After the opening ceremony of hackathon we brainstormed and the idea and came to conclusion. As I said theme was sharks we thought why not a portfolio for sharks? yup we created website and named it as sharkfolio; interesting, right? I forgot to mention that we are a three-person team.
Designing and coding…
And we designed the landing page with the help of Figma (shameless plug); I am a little good at design. So it came out very well.
Then, we started coding, and I created a GitHub repository. What is the tech stack? The technology we used to build the project is React. At that time, I was not familiar with React and Tailwind CSS, but intentionally, we decided to go with React and Tailwind CSS so that we can use the hackathon as a learning opportunity.
As there are three of us in the team, we divided the work and started coding. After so many bugs and pair programming, we finished the project. At last, we submitted the project to DevPost.
The results day
The results day arrived, and all my teammates were on Discord. I was busy with some other work, so I didn't join them.
Yes, we won 🥲. So we made it to second place overall in the hackathon. After hearing that news, I was paralyzed with happiness. After working sleepless hours
